This is definitely what a teacher wants. Do you have any ideas on how to get your students to be the example here?
I do a lot of Kagan and Collaborative Pairs Activities. I try to incorporate fun activities but sometimes these just take too long. For example, I did a Find Someone Who this morning that was supposed to take 7 minutes, 10 minutes tops. It took my students (2nd grade) 40 minutes and they didn't even finish half the worksheet!! I am going to try this again tomorrow since they did it today. I know it takes longer when introducing a new strategy, but 40 minutes?! It was almost all my reading instruction time.
Unfortunately, I see a few of students falling into the habit of your first picture. These students just don't get motivated and I am struggling to get them where they need to be. Today, we had a training on teaching the UNRAAVEL strategy from Larry Bell. It sounds like a great way to help with comprehension. I will try it and let everyone know on my blog if it works!
