Here is my digital story. I created it using a Flip Share video camera. I have one in my classroom so I thought it would be a great tool for my students to use to create their digital stories. I chose the life cycle of the butterfly because we will soon be learning about life cycles of animals and plants and their interdependence. I am a second grade teacher. Although it took me about 30 takes, I think I finally got it! I think the video quality is not that great because the lighting in my room is not very bright. I created all the props by using construction paper. I tore the pieces by hand to make the pictures and glued them together. Please leave your comments and tell me what you think.
I love your digital storytelling example! I think you had a great idea about using your own flip camera, I wish I had thought of that! I think your use of construction paper to show the cycle was a great way to show the actual cycle.
I love the creativity! I think that this might be too hard for individual second graders, but could see small groups doing it, or even making it a class project. Great idea!
The life cycle of a butterfly is always such a fun topic as it fills all different ages of students with wonder.
I also like the idea of using a flip camera to complete the video. I can see your second graders completing this project with some help with filming their stories. It would be a great assessment to have them tell their story so that you could see where they were in their learning.
I think that 2nd graders might need some help tearing the paper correctly, unless you decided to give them templates or to have them draw then cut out the props. If I was doing this I would be more focused on seeing what they come up with for their stories. It would be so fun to hear them tell about it in their own words. =)
That was awesome! I really liked how you laid everything out simple and engaging,it keep my interested even thought I know the life cycle I was interested. The kids will love it! Great job!
Thank you all for your encouraging comments! Yes, the project is definitely a group project, I agree that it would be hard for a second grader to do this on his own. :o) I have that info in my Wiki. Another thing I was planning is to let them draw the pictures if they wanted to, or let them cut them out from construction paper. It takes fine motor skills to tear the paper with your hands and some might not be able to. I can't wait to hear their stories! Larisa
